Where To Go When You Are Hungry At Midnight

by Juliana Raposo

A question I get asked too often by guests. People do get surprised when they try to go eat late at night in San Diego... and nothing is open. Well, San Diego is no small town, yet, no big city either. While most eateries that cater to the late crowd concentrate downtown, in the beach area late night dining options are scarce.
Luckily, there are a few reliable places in our neighborhood that serve food into the am pretty much every day. Our selection has 3 neighborhood restaurants that offer late night dining after midnight, with quality food and great ambiance. They can be the end stop in your night out, or even the main event. Here's our list:
Beaumont's
A local's favorite in the Bird Rock neighborhood. This restaurant has the So-Cal beach feel with a laid-back sophistication. Great food, usually accompanied by interesting live music. A top choice to dine or hang out, any time.
5662 La Jolla Blvd. San Diego, 92037
Open everyday until 1:30am.
Saska's
A tradition in Mission Beach for over 60 years. Part of its charm is that the place looks like nothing has changed there since the 50s… differently from so many other joints that try to look like another era. With a broad menu serving everything from pasta to steak and seafood, the restaurant is a great place to have a decent dinner anytime. If you want to eat a big juicy steak, and it's midnight, that's where you go.
3768 Mission Blvd. San Diego, 92109
Open Sun to Thu until midnight. Fri to Sat until 1:00 am.
3rd Corner
Located in neighboring Ocean Beach, this one has a huge wine selection and a romantic ambiance. There's a wine shop and the California bistro. The entrees are delectable: duck confit with cassoulet and the perfect wine pairing.
2265 Bacon St. San Diego, 92107
Tue to Fri until 1:00 am Sun until 11:00 pm Mon closed
